What: Hunting, Fishing, Tramping

Why: One of the great trips, good fishing, good hunting.

How:

Travel to road end Koranga valley.

First day: big climb over the burn into Tawa hut

Second day: But then river travel to Forks hut. One gnarly bit below the Tataweka junction but okay.

Third day: Koranga Forks hut out to road end and vehicle.

Great trout fishing all the way – huts still there as it is not part of Te Urewera.

Comments:

Can be done in reverse of course – long slow pull from Tawa up to the burn in reverse but lighter pack of course – its just easier doing it going down stream as there are multiple river crossings – just be careful of weather – if it rains and river comes up its a hell of a walk out via ridges and you better have a map compass and GPS to do that.
